What is Artificial Intelligence?

Did you ever browse Netflix movie suggestions or ask Alexa to read Today’s News Headlines. While doing that you are actually interacting with Artificial Intelligence. This is how AI works. Artificial Intelligence is designed in such a way that you don’t realize there is a computer calling the shots. Basic means, Artificial Intelligence is a broad area of computer science that makes machine seems like they have human intelligence. It is not just programming a computer to drive a car by obeying traffic rules, but it’s when that program also learn to exhibit signs of human-like road rage.

Artificial Intelligence Definition 

The purest Artificial Intelligence Definition from the time when it was first coined by Professor John McCarthy is “Every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it. An attempt will be made to find how to make machines use language, form abstractions and concepts, solve kind of problems now reserved for humans, and improve themselves”.

The above AI definition says that Artificial Intelligence is a machine with the ability to solve problems that are usually done by humans with their natural intelligence. A computer would demonstrate a form of intelligence when it learns how to improve itself at solving these problems.

The Aspects of Artificial Intelligence –

1. Simulating higher functions of the human brain.
2. Programming a computer to use general language.
3. Arranging hypothetical neurons in a manner so that they can form concepts.
4. A way to determine and measure problem complexity.
5. Self-improvement
6. Abstraction: Defined as the quality of dealing with ideas rather than events.
7. Randomness and creativity.

Artificial Intelligence Evolution 

During the past few years, a couple of factors have led to Artificial Intelligence becoming the next big thing. A huge amount of data are being created. The advancement in processing speed, the computer can actually make sense of all this information more quickly. Because of this, tech giants and ventures capitalists have bought into Artificial Intelligence and infusing the market with new applications. Soon, in the future, AI will become a little less artificial and a lot more intelligent. At the far end of the spectrum Machine Learning, it is the most exciting area of Artificial Intelligence. Like a human, a machine retains information and become smarter over time.

Conclusion

Can machines think? Now it appears that the answer is moving towards “Yes”. Artificial Intelligence has its impact on our lives & it’s everywhere. The two biggest developments to bring AI to the forefront are Big data & Computing power. From robot customer service agents to Chat Bots & autonomous vehicles, AI is almost unavoidable. And we better get used to it because this is one trend that isn’t going away any time soon.
